Hair Stylist and salon entrepreneur Caleb Cowan shares his best advice for those who are thinking about making a BIG hairstyle change!

New Year, New Hair!

Are you a little too comfy with your hairstyle? Have you had the same look in the past 10 New Year’s photos? If you answered yes to either of those questions, then it’s time to reinvent your look!
If your hair is getting a little stale, the start of a new year is the perfect time to switch up your look. After all, a new year is a fresh start in so many ways, and it’s the perfect time to really make a change. Change can range from subtle to dramatic. In fact, change doesn’t only encompass your actual hair; it can also mean a change in your outlook on life.

Whatever change you make, you're sure to feel refreshed afterwards: A new look can be life changing but incredibly exciting. Sometimes just getting extra compliments can make you feel so great about yourself and be a big boost in self-esteem. Who doesn't like to get noticed?!"
If you're not 100 percent sure you're ready for a change, however, you might want to hold off, if you're not ready and you're not willing to have complete trust and embrace a change, we recommend waiting.

If you are ready for a change, here are “The Cowan” top six tips for reinventing your hairstyle this year!

1. Try a different part
We know you’re probably attached to your part, ladies. After all, many of us rarely switch things up when it comes to the side we part our hair on. But trying a different part can give you a completely new look. The best part? It’s not permanent! If you don’t like it, you can always change your part back.

2. Try a Bang
Have you always wanted bangs? Have you always been a bit too nervous to try them out?                 Bangs define and frame your face. But if you cannot maintain a fringe, do not get it. There are many types of bangs you can try if you don’t want straight across bangs.

3. Cut things up
If you haven’t changed the cut of your hair in quite some time, it’s high time to make a change. If you’re at a loss, tear out pictures from magazines of looks that you love. By doing so, your stylist will have an idea of what you’re envisioning.

4. Get colorful
Color changing is so important, especially seasonal. Whether you're concerned about gray hairs that are popping up or you'd like to lighten your look for a season ahead, changing the color of your hair can really refresh your look this year!

5. Try before you buy
Lucky for you, the internet is filled with all sorts of websites that let you upload a photo and try on a hairstyle before you actually take the plunge. We also recommend flipping through magazines or online sites first, and then trying it on before making any drastic changes.

6. Switch your hair stylist
If you’re still stuck and can’t decide on the best way to reinvent your look this year, it might be time to seek a new opinion. Sometimes you get stuck in a rut and it's hard to figure out how to make a change. This is only recommended if all else fails and you’re at a complete loss! We at Cowan & Co. Hair Studio at Downtown always offer a FREE consulation before any hair service. So feel free to make an appointment.

Back to School Tips from Amanda, Ellen, and Whitley!

Back 2 School Tips from Amanda:
Jane Iredale's Brow Gels is one of my favorite time-saving "go to" products for a quick face. Formulated with a high-tech blend of sea minerals that condition and protect brow hairs, these brow gels will make your brows smoother, healthier, and more manageable. They also hide gray, and will even do "double duty" as a light mascara, which will also save you a few dollars! I'm obsessed. To me, your face is not complete without brows that compliment your eye shape. "Never underestimate the power of eyebrows"~Amanda

Back 2 School Tips by Ellen:

Jane Iredale's Just Kissed lip and cheek stain is AMAZING! It looks different on everyone due to it's unique design that adjusts to your own body chemistry. It gives you a perfect shade of pink that gives you silky lips or dewy cheeks. This multi purpose product looks great on and is easy on the wallet!~ Ellen

For those beautiful, curly manes like mine, Bumble's Surf Family is simply Ahh-mazing!! I'm completely obsessed with it's seabreezy texture! Start with Bb Surf foam wash Shampoo & creme rinse Conditioner. Towel dry & apply Bb Surf Spray roots to ends. I use the diffusing attachment on my blow dryer to lift my roots and to make sure I don't leave the house with those unwanted frizzy ends! You can also use Bb Surf Spray on dry hair too! Whichever way you choose to use it, you'll be fabulous!
